Jet lag or desynchronosis is a condition in which we experience symptoms like insomnia and fatigue, when we travel to different time zones.
Now, since the earth rotates on its axis, different parts of the earth experience day and night at different times, thus creating different time zones.
Our body has an internal 24-hour cycle which works in sync with the time zone we live in. It is called the circadian rhythm. It tells us when to sleep and when to wake up. It also regulates hunger, body temperature, release of hormones, etc. But, when we travel to different time zone where the sun rises and sets at a different time, it disrupts our circadian rhythm. As a result, we feel disorientated and experience headache, insomnia, indigestion, etc., thus causing a jet lag.
